Galway City & Clare County Draft Development Plans – Material Amendments

Galway City

We have been keeping readers of this newsletter updated on progress for the Galway City Development Plan review for the period 2017 to 2023. We previously reported that Galway City Council had published a Draft Galway City Development Plan and that submissions were invited on or before Friday 11th March 2016. Material Amendments to the Draft City Plan are now on public display from Monday 5th September 2016 until 4pm on Tuesday 4th October 2016. However, it should be noted that any submission at this stage of the development plan process is confined to the proposed material amendments only and that the Planning Authority is precluded from taking other matters into consideration.

Full details of the proposed Material Amendments and supporting documents can be found on the City Council’s website. This also includes details of a weekly drop in clinic, where planning staff will be available to answer questions in connection with the proposed Material Amendments.

Please contact us at McCarthy Keville O’Sullivan if you would like professional advice on the proposed Material Amendments to the Draft Galway City Development Plan or assistance with making a written submission. The closing date for receipt of written submissions/observations is 4pm on Tuesday 4th October 2016.

County Clare

We previously reported that Clare County Council had begun the process to prepare a new County Development Plan for the period 2017-2023. A Draft County Plan went on public display on 8th December 2015 and submissions were invited on or before 29th February 2016. Material amendments to the Draft Plan are now on public display from Tuesday 13th September 2016 and submissions can be made on or before 4 pm on Wednesday 12th October 2016. However, it should be noted that any submission at this stage of the development plan process is confined to the proposed material amendments only and that the Planning Authority is precluded from taking other matters into consideration.

The new Plan covers all of County Clare and sets out the planning strategy, policies and objectives for the period up to 2023. It also sets out the Core Strategy for the County, including population growth targets and growth allocations to individual settlements. As well as the County-wide Plan, there are detailed written statements and zoning maps for each of the County’s four municipal districts (Ennis, Shannon, Killaloe and West Clare).

The new Clare County Development Plan 2017 – 2023 will replace the existing County Development Plan, the Kilrush Town and Environs Development Plan and the Ennis and Environs Development Plan. It will also supersede the current geographical Local Area Plans.

Full details of the proposed Material Amendments and supporting documents can be found on the County Council’s website. This also includes details of where the proposed Material Amendments are available for inspection across the County.

Please contact us at McCarthy Keville O’Sullivan if you would like professional advice on the proposed Material Amendments to the Draft Clare County Development Plan or assistance with making a written submission. The closing date for receipt of written submissions/observations is 4 pm on Wednesday 12th October 2016
