McCarthy Keville O'Sullivan Ltd. recently secured planning permission for a client for a seven-turbine wind farm development at Shannagurraun and Truskaunnagappul, north of An Spidéal, Co. Galway. The permission that was granted by An Bord Pleanála, included the turbines, an anemometry mast and ancillary site works including borrow pits .
McCarthy Keville O'Sullivan Ltd. were delighted to have project managed the environmental impact assessment and planning application, including the preparation of an EIS, on behalf of Enerco Energy.
Planning permission was initially granted in March 2011 by Galway County Council but was subsequently appealed by thirds parties to An Bord Pleanála. The final grant of permission was issued 1st November 2011 and the successful applicants of hoping to commence construction of the wind farm in 2012.
Once operational, the windfarm would have the potential to generate sufficient electricity to supply 30% of the households in Galway City.
