Galway County Council has begun the process to prepare a new Gaeltacht Local Area Plan (LAP) with the release of an Issues Paper document which frames the overall strategy and context of the LAP under a number of themes with the aim of helping to stimulate public observations and suggestions on the overall strategy, planning considerations and land-use issues that might be addressed in the new Gaeltacht LAP.
The forthcoming Gaeltacht LAP will have dedicated zoning maps for An Cheathrú Rua, An Spidéal and Baile Cláir. It should be noted that whilst the current Gaeltacht LAP has zoning maps for the urban settlements of An Cheathrú Rua and An Spidéal, the inclusion of zoning mapping provisions for Baile Cláir will be a new feature for the new Gaeltacht LAP as this settlement was previously the subject of its own LAP under the previous Claregalway Local Area Plan 2005-2011 which has since expired.
Submissions regarding the review of the current Gaeltacht LAP should relate to objectives and policies to deliver an overall strategy for the proper planning and sustainable development of the Gaeltacht LAP area and should not relate to zoning of specific lands at this time. Land use zonings will be available for submissions at the next stage of the process, when a Draft Plan is published.
The final date for receipt of submissions or observations for this pre-draft stage of the new Gaeltacht Local Area Plan is Tuesday 8th of August 2017 (before 5pm).
