Draft Renewable Energy Strategy for Mayo:

Mayo County Council have published its Draft Renewable Energy Strategy for the period 2010-2020 (Click here for link to Mayo County Councils website).

The Mayo County Development Plan 2008-2012 already has extensive objectives to support the development of renewable energy in the County, and it is anticipated that the Draft Renewable Energy Strategy will further add to these and seeks to sustainably harness the County’s extensive renewable wind, wave and biomass energy resources. One of the objectives of the Mayo County Development Plan 2008-2014 undertook to review the Wind Energy Strategy for Co. Mayo within one year of the adoption of the County Development Plan. However Mayo County Council decided not only to review the Wind Energy Strategy but to go one step further and prepare a Renewable Energy Strategy for the County.

The strategy, once finalised and adopted, will form part of the Mayo County Development Plan and therefore, as part of the Statutory process, members of the public will have an opportunity to make submissions on the Draft Strategy. Submissions are accepted until Friday 28th January.
