MKO has recently welcomed a number of new staff members to three of its teams.
Ray Tighe has recently joined MKO`s Ecology team as a Graduate Ecologist. Ray has spent six years studying Environmental Management and Ecology in the Dublin Institute of Technology. Ray holds a BSc (First Class Hons) in Environmental Management and is currently in the final write-up stage of an MPhil in dune morphology following extensive fieldwork. Ray’s professional experience includes some time spent working in the Environmental Department of South Dublin County Council as a tree surveyor is also underpinned by 14 years spent working in the construction sector. Ray`s specialist area is coastal dune systems and vegetation identification.
Órla Murphy has recently joined MKO’s Environmental Team as an Assistant Environmental Scientist. Órla has previously worked as a Graduate Environmental Consultant within private consultancy for nearly two years in Scotland; before moving back to Ireland. Órla holds a BSc (Hons) in Geography from Queen’s University Belfast and an MSc (Hons) Environmental Protection and Management from the University of Edinburgh. Her main expertise relates to production of Environmental Impact Statements, GIS Mapping and fieldwork, with a special interest in peatland environments within the UK and Ireland.
Ian Hynes has recently joined MKO’s Ornithology Team as a Graduate Environmental Scientist. He attended NUIG where he graduated with an honours degree in Environmental Science. Throughout his degree Ian became familiar with a broad range of subjects such as Ecology, Microbiology, GIS, Environmental Legislation, Appropriate Assessment and Environmental Impact Statements. As part of his final year thesis Ian gained experience in habitat, plant and invertebrate identification and GIS mapping. Throughout his thesis he also liaised with members of the AranLIFE project on Inis Oirr, the Applied Ecology Unit (NUIG) and local farmers.
