An Bord Pleanála have granted planning permission for an 87MW wind farm development at Slievecallan, Co. Clare after McCarthy Keville O'Sullivan Ltd. project managed the entire planning application and environmental impact assessment process.
The planning application by West Clare Renewable Energy Ltd. sought permission for 31 wind turbines but An Bord Pleanála omitted two turbines in their final decision. Wind data collected from the site over recent years has proven it to be one of the most attractive sites in the Country, in terms of wind speeds.
McCarthy Keville O'Sullivan Ltd. acted as the lead planning and environmental consultants for the application, which was lodged in January 2010. The EIS project management included co-ordination of geotechnical, hydrological, archaeological and traffic sub-consultants, with all other EIS sections being completed by in-house staff. Specialist EIA work undertaken includes extensive year-round bird surveying, detailed ecological constraints mapping and landscape character assessment.
