Strategic Housing Development Process Up and Running

An Bord Pleanála have granted permission for 420 homes on the site of CIE’s former lands at Carnlough Road, Cabra, Dublin.

The project was submitted under the new strategic housing development process (SHD), a new regulation signed into law last June by Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy, which allows developers seeking permission for large-scale residential schemes of 100 housing units or more (or student accommodation projects containing 200 or more bed spaces) to bypass local authorities, and apply directly to An Bord Pleanála in a bid to cut down on the time it takes to make a decision.

In the case of this application, An Bord Pleanála completed its deliberations and issued notification of its decision in just 14 weeks, two weeks ahead of the 16 week timeframe allowed under the SHD process.
