Galway County Council recently granted planning permission to Gaoi an Iarthar Teo. for a 27 turbine wind farm development in the townlands of Derrynea, Lettermuckoo and Muckanaghkillew, near Casla, Co. Galway. McCarthy Keville O'Sullivan Ltd. project managed the environmental impact assessment and planning application, including the preparation of an EIS.
Once operational, the wind farm would have the potential to generate sufficient electricity to supply 40,000 Irish households per annum, or 75% of the households in Co. Galway.
The application was the subject of a number of submissions and objections and has subsequently been appealed to An Bord Pleanála. A final decision is anticipated from An Bord Pleanála in August 2011.
